As I mentioned in the previous post, we didn't entertain any overnight guests after Emily's party because there was a HUGE snowstorm set to begin immediately on January 5th...which just so happens to be Emily's actual birthday! We'll get to the snow...
She was so excited about her birthday when she woke up and was immediately drawn to her pile of presents!
We typically space the gifts out over the course of the day, allowing a gift here and there. Eventually, Emily decided she'd like to open all of the remaining gifts and even let Aaron help her!
Here is her new Elsa nightgown...a favorite!

Outside, the temperature was pretty comfortable, but the snow was intense! We officially got 12 inches over the course of the day. We walked down to our neighbors' house and built a snowman, had hot chocolate and then followed Daddy, with the snowblower, home! When we got home, Aaron and Daddy worked on building a serious igloo!
Back inside, where it was warm, we took our family birthday picture!

Time to sing again and this time, with cake balls! YUM!
After hot chocolate and cake balls, we decided to try a recipe that was floating around online for snow cream! Earlier in the day we put a bowl in a chair on the deck and collected fresh snow. The recipe called for 1 cup milk/heavy cream, 1 tsp of vanilla and 1/4 cup of sugar...then add in the fun ingredient: 4 cups of SNOW! It was actually quite yummy though I limited everyone's consumption for fear that the snow may not be as pure as we would hope!
What a perfect winter day for a birthday! Happy 4th Birthday to our Emily who epitomizes GIRL by loving all things girly and through her daily demonstrations of sugar AND spice! She keeps us guessing her next comment or facial expression and leaves us wondering where in the world they come from! She gives the world's greatest hugs where she holds on and melts into you! She loves intensely but can be very stubborn and unyielding, despite the consequence! Oh boy! We love you, and all that you are, Emily Reese!
